Our new and exciting acronym

We are now LID!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I went on our agency’s website to browse, like I find myself doing just about every evening. Its kinda like like when your pregnant with your FIRST child (yes I capitalized that on purpose) and you read “what to expect when your expecting” and you google what size fruit your baby is most like now. (it sounds so weird when your not pregnant) 😉 Anyway, I thought I’d check on the “families in process” page where you can see the dates of the last Dossiers sent to China (DTC) and what their log in dates (LID) are.

When I went on there last week they had only updated through August so I figured it would be awhile before we knew our official log in date. Then I noticed the new update included September. I thought “oh yay, we should be LID soon”. Finally, in a very slow eye-to-brain nerve connection, I all the sudden realized our DTC date was on there AND……wait, there was a date next to it… wait…… brain receives signal……WE ARE LID!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!IMG_8126

Just 5 days after sending our dossier!!! So what does “log in date” mean? and why when I type it, do I follow it up with an AHHHHHH?!?!?!?!! It means we are now in China’s system to be matched with a child. It means the very next step for us is seeing the face of our new daughter and reading her story!!!!! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!

From what I have been told by our agency, the wait time to be matched with a child can be anywhere from the next list release from China (which is due in about 2 weeks) to about 6 months. Thats a really broad time frame. =/ Depending on so many factors like what medical conditions your family is listed as being “open to”, and how severe (minor – major), what kinds of conditions and how many children are released on the next list, how many families are waiting, ect.

Since we are doing a “special needs” adoption, at the beginning of the application process we had to fill out a “medical checklist” saying what types of medical conditions we were “opened to accepting”. Scan 2This was awful. These aren’t medical conditions, they are children and every child needs a loving family, so its hard to say well, “only if a child has these conditions would we accept them”. ugh. It makes me sick to my stomach.  But you also have to be realistic and ask yourself what  you feel like your family can handle.

Anyway, as I understand it, when china releases its list, our agency will immediately lock the files of children on the list they believe they may have a family match for. A board of proffesionals will sit down and look over the child’s file and your file and decide if it is a good match based on medical condition, personality, age, gender, your family’s biography, ect….. they will then contact your social worker who did the home study, and ask that they review the file. THEN they will contact you with your “referral” . This phone call normally happens really late at night since china is 12 hours ahead of us and the list is released in the morning there. Its really exiting, like when you go to do the sonogram to find out what your having. Except we already know “ITS A GIRL!!!” =) IMG_6289and we will be able to see exactly what she looks like (even better than those 4D sonograms) and even read about her personality. Then we can take a few days to pray and decide if the “referral” is indeed our daughter. If we accept the referral, we write a letter of intent to the chinese government…. and then begins more paperwork and more waiting. Please keep us and our daughter in your prayers. We cant wait to get that phone call!!

WE ARE DTC!!!!!!

Yay!!!!! =) I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!

We knew there was a good chance it could happen yesterday, I kept checking my email all day, every chance I could, hoping to get word. We did! Ok, so what does DTC mean?!? DOSSIER TO CHINA!! All the piles and piles of paperwork we have been working on for months and months has been sent in, reviewed, sealed and approved by our agency who sent it out yesterday and It is currently making its way to China! ahhhhhh!!!!

I did this with the map in my classroom =)

After school we went out to dinner to celebrate. IMG_7926

I kept making DTC pics with everything =)

IMG_7927I guess I am a little excited. This is a HUGE step in our journey. Next step….. being matched with OUR daughter.

God writes such beautiful stories

For those of you who don’t already know this, my in-laws are pretty amazing people. =) They are kind, genuine and generous. Their love for the Lord is evident through their love for their family and others around them. Well, someone else who has experienced this firsthand wanted to do something to bless them back, and it was decided that they would send them and their family (lucky us) out to a nice steak dinner. So out we went.

We have never, ever all gone out together without the littlest family members (our two girls, and our niece) since we were blessed with their presence in this world, until last night. It was a weird, “i feel like I’m forgetting something” kind of feeling, but it was nice. We had a great dinner and then walked along the board walk downtown. We took a bunch of photos.

One of all of us together:IMG_7805

and of course, some silly ones:IMG_7813

I went straight to bed after we got home last night exhausted from a full day at school and then a fun filled evening.  When I woke up this morning, I started to post a picture of Caleb and I on instagram on the boardwalk from the night before.

As I tried to decide what filter we looked best in, and how to crop it just right, 😉 I spotted it. Something I knew was there and had seen a hundred times before. I had heard the story and knew the significance, but it stood out now. So crazy clear. I sent my mother in law a text and started to cry.

Behind us in all the pictures is the old Independent life/Modis building. (now the Wells fargo building) So what?!? well..

That is the exact building my in laws drove to, to meet their lawer on the day they brought home their oh-so-longed for baby boy, my husband. There is where two anxious parents awaited seeing his little face for the first time….. they understand how hard it is to wait to hold your little one and to finally be a family. But it is all worth it.  She text:  “I don’t remember a lot of things, but I remember that night vividly. Opening up his blanket, and inspecting everything and counting toes, in AWE!! and in LOVE!!!”

So fast forward 31 years, and look across the river. Here we are now, that baby boy has grown into an amazing man and is surrounded by those who love him most in this world. (minus the littlest ones) and now He is in his parents place, awaiting an oh-so-longed for little girl, adopting a little one of his own. Its a crazy full circle moment.

I can’t wait to see her “full circle” moment. God writes such beautiful stories.

Updates

Two weeks ago we received our approval notice from the Us department of immigration.IMG_7815

It took nearly a month, it felt like a year!! The day we got it in the mail, I rushed it right over to put it into the hands of our sweet dossier lady. She sent it out the next day to wherever it needs to go to get all the seals of approval. Here’s her estimated timeline:IMG_7814

Once Holt receives it in their hands, they will look over everything to make sure it is exactly how it should be, and then it will be shipped to CHINA!!!! What a crazy happy day that will be. I think we should have a party=) But, for now. we just wait.

We still need to raise around $10,000. It’s a lot of money but we know “He who calls us is faithful!” 1 Thess 5:24

We applied for a grant through Steven Curtis Chapman’s adoption fund called “Show hope”.IMG_7612

We are praying for Gods favor in this. Please be praying with us. They will award families in need up to around $4,000 to help with adoption cost. They can only grant so many per “cycle” so we are praying to be picked. We wont find out until the end of November if we were chosen… we will keep you all posted. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!
