About Us

We are the Gressmans, and this is our journey....

We are the Gressmans, and this is our journey….

Caleb and I are so excited to share with you what the Lord is doing in our lives as a family. Since my (Hillary) first trip to China in 2009 (3 and a half years ago), we have thought about, prayed about, and talked about the idea of ADOPTING from China.

While there, I met a little orphan girl named Belle, who has changed our lives forever. It is through meeting her, that God opened the door of our hearts and revealed his plan for us to adopt. Over the last 3 and a half years we have kept in contact with her and her foster mother (an American missionary) via emails, phone calls, and even video chats. We have prayed for her and have come to care about her deeply.

Recently, we learned that Belle (and many many others around the country) had to leave her foster home and was taken back to the orphanage by the order of the Chinese government. She has been placed in a Chinese foster family where we are told she will  “never be available for adoption”. Her story is extremely complicated and disheartening… but we have to believe that God is always in control. His thoughts are higher than our own, (Isaiah 55:9) and only he knows why her path has changed so suddenly. We know his plans for her are good. In these past few years of praying and interacting with Belle, and continuing to seek the Lord, we have come to a deeper understanding of the calling God has on our family to adopt from China.

We have been so incredibly blessed with our two daughters, but there are so many little ones in China and around the world who may not ever have a father and mother if we, as christians, don’t step up and defend them. (Isaiah 1:17) We know physical adoption is not God’s plan for everyone, but he does clearly ask that we all care for the orphans. (James 1:27)

So here we are stepping out in faith. We are asking you to walk with us, and to join with us both spiritually and financially on this journey. We believe that your part in this is of no less importance than us physically adopting a child. One cannot be done without the other!!! We need to raise approximately $25,000!!!!! Its so overwhelming…but God is bigger than any amount of money.

There are many healthy children who are waiting to be adopted from China, there are 6 years worth of parents waiting to adopt one of these “healthy” children. We are looking to adopt from China’s “special needs” list. Many children are on this have very minor and/or correctable conditions, and yet they have been labeled as “special needs”. All of these children were fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and we would be honored to have the opportunity to call one of them our own.

The waiting time for a special needs adoption is 12-18 months, compared to the 6 years. “Healthy” or “special needs”,  all children need the same thing, love. His love, and to be brought up to know who they are in Christ.

I don’t know if all of you are aware of this, but 31 years ago, my in-laws took a chance and adopted a newborn baby boy who needed a home. They had no idea then that this little boy would grow up to become my husband, my best friend, and the father of my children. I am forever indebted to them for loving him, and showing him the love of our Father in heaven, in whom we have all been adopted (Romans 8:15) and for raising him to be the amazing man he is today.

Now He and I have the opportunity to do the same thing for a child. This child will grow up to be a best friend, a spouse, a parent, but most importantly, a son or daughter of God!

We cannot do this without YOU!!! We ask that you, first and foremost pray for our family as we start this journey. It is going to be a long hard road, and we will need all of your support along the way. We need people who are committed to lifting our family up in prayer, this is most important!!

On this blog we will share everything that God is doing both in and through us along the way. We know this journey won’t be easy, but we can do it knowing that He who calls us is faithful, and that there are so many people praying for us.

Our next biggest need is the huge amount of money this will cost. Please pray how you can help financially. We have already used the money we had saved up for the first few steps, application fees and such, and we are moving forward in faith.

God has invited us to do something life changing, and we ask you to join with us. When you do, we believe you have an inheritance in their story and that your name will be counted in their legacy.

We are so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing family and friends, and your support means more to us than we could ever express. Thank you for coming along on our journey!
